Subsurface Drip Irrigation (also known as ‘SDI’) solves nearly every irrigation application problem that we face today. Wind-drift, evaporation, overspray, runoff, low infiltration and distribution uniformity issues are all either non existent or easily manageable with SDI. Aspects like dynamic pressure, flow velocity, filtration, pulsing, looped circuit, low head drainage, checked flow and horizontally dimensioned slope zones are some of the key items for a professional installation that will perform reliably and sets the professional installation apart from the basic homeowner installation.
What about the roots?
Root intrusion issues are managed differently by their respective manufacturers and for some brands the solution can be a factor in design while others are not. The real life functional differences across the board are not easily identifiable or understood fully without years of experience installing them in a variety of soil conditions, topographical variations and plant types. All of which can have influence on the longevity of your SDI system.
